Described by the Chicago Tribune as “an ensemble that invites you — ears, mind, and spirit — into its music,” the Avalon String Quartet has established itself as one of the country’s leading chamber music ensembles.

On Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7pm CST, the Avalon String Quartet will play works by Beethoven and Florence Price.

The quartet has performed in many major venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the 92nd St Y, Merkin Hall in New York; the Library of Congress and National Gallery of Art in Washington DC; Wigmore Hall in London; and Herculessaal in Munich. They are performing an annual concert series at historic Ganz Hall at Roosevelt University.

In recent seasons, the Avalon presented the complete quartet cycles of Beethoven, Bartok, and Brahms at Fullerton Hall at the Art Institute of Chicago. They have recorded for many major labels such as Naxos, Bridge, Cedille Records, Channel Classics and Albany. The quartet presently serve as quartet-in-residence at the Northern Illinois University School of Music.

This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, Oak Park Area Arts Council, and the Alphawood Foundation.
